“She Believed…..She Could…..She Did”

There is so much meaning to this quote as it applies to our daily lives! Believing in oneself is something that many women have a hard time doing. With the daily hustle and bustle of life, it is a challenge to be self-motivated and engage within oneself. I know from first hand experience…..

Thinking back to my 20’s…..I was ecstatic about becoming a newscaster! It was all I talked about becoming during high school! I idolized Oprah Winfrey and so wanted to be a woman of that caliber and grace! Upon interviewing for the Broadcast Communications Program, I was rejected. I didn’t understand. I had maintained all A’s in my pre-requisites, I had completed my internships etc. Being pulled to the side and told that I was ” too heavy to be on TV” was a humiliating event in my life. I took the rejection and the denial and saw it as my limitation. Not only that I began to develop “body issues.” This led to a track of taking prescription weight loss pills, drinking slim fast to cure “hunger,” and limiting to myself to a caloric intake of 800-1100 calories a day…..I did not believe in myself. I felt like a failure and abolished my dream career.

As a student at Kentucky State University, I had very motivating professors. They sparked that fire back in me! This led me to turn toward my second love which was literacy. However, the words, ” fat, heavy, rejected, denied” stayed with me. I did not believe I could any longer.

Looking back now at that experience I have my regrets. I have developed characteristics that I did not hold at that time. I now emphasize the following each morning in the mirror when I see myself:

” I can”

“I am”

” I will”

“I believe”

Life is short Queens….live it to its fullest capability. Do not let anyone tell you that you can’t. Make it a habit to tell yourself 3 positives about you every single day! Believe in yourself and know that you can and you will!

Affectionately Yours,

Meka Kelly

Hello Queens and SuperWomen!! Welcome to my blog site! My name is Meka Kelly. I am excited you are here! Let me tell you a little bit about me and my WHY for this blog! I am a 40 something wife, mother of 2, a full time public servant school teacher, and I also tutor as well. My passion is to teach children to gain a love for literacy! This is my calling and I have been in education now for over 2 decades! My WHY for this blog is this: * Women serve in multiple roles - mother, professional, spouse, aunt, sister, daughter, niece, supporter * Women take on a LOT and it becomes overwhelming * Women hold in a lot and do not take time to self care * Women are the pillars and the structure for their families; often we do not focus on ourselves Because of these factors, I have come to realize through my own experiences that we as women need outlets. Here is a place for alacrity, positivity, self-reflection, and healing! I hope this blog will be beneficial to my queens and superwomen! Meka Kelly
